The world is currently experiencing one of the highest levels of armed conflict since the end of the Cold War. From large-scale interstate wars to internal insurgencies and cross-border terrorism, the nature of modern warfare has evolved to include drone strikes, cyber operations, proxy conflicts, and hybrid warfare tactics. ConflictWatch tracks these developments in real time, offering analysts, researchers, journalists, and concerned citizens a centralized platform for situational awareness.
As of 2026, active conflict zones span Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia, with a major new theatre opening in Iran. Each crisis carries unique dynamics involving territorial disputes, ethnic tensions, resource competition, and great power rivalries. Our automated monitoring system detects and categorizes threats by severity level based on the volume of geolocated news coverage: high-intensity active combat zones, medium-level insurgencies and civil conflicts, and lower-intensity situations under observation for potential escalation.
How ConflictWatch Works
Our platform integrates data from the GDELT Project, which processes news articles from virtually every country in over 100 languages and updates every 15 minutes. We complement this with data from ACLED (Armed Conflict Location and Event Data), international RSS feeds, and verified open-source intelligence reports. Each conflict zone is mapped with precise geographic coordinates and enriched with contextual metadata including involved parties, casualty estimates, displacement figures, and diplomatic developments.
The interactive map displays conflict markers color-coded by severity, allowing users to quickly assess the global threat landscape at a glance. Clicking on any marker reveals detailed intelligence summaries, relevant tags, and a live news feed powered by GDELT that surfaces the most recent English-language reporting on that specific conflict. The breaking news ticker at the bottom of the screen provides a continuous stream of the latest global security headlines.

Conflict Zones Under Active Monitoring
ConflictWatch automatically detects and tracks conflict zones worldwide by analyzing the density and geolocation of news articles about armed conflict, military operations, and political violence. Zones with high article density appear as red markers, medium-density zones as amber, and emerging situations as blue. This automated approach ensures that new crises — such as the 2026 US-Israel war on Iran — appear on the map within hours of their outbreak, without requiring manual updates.
Each conflict zone marker represents a cluster of geolocated news articles. The size and color reflect the intensity of coverage, which correlates strongly with the scale of hostilities. Clicking any marker reveals the latest reporting from that region, drawn from thousands of English-language sources worldwide.
